What to Cover?

Lately I have been faced with the issue of what games to cover on a given day.  More and more I am having to make the decision based on what games might offer the best chance of selling images and not on what might be the most entertaining for me personally.  I have been fortunate in the past to shoot games that I have wanted to based on entertainment value alone, that is no longer the case.

I have been lucky in that all of the stuff I have shot so far has been entertaining.  I was a little concerned about shooting 8 and 9 year olds playing baseball, but those too have turned out to be very entertaining and fun to shoot.  It is amazing how good some of these kids really are at that age.

Those who have followed me for some time know that I have covered the Rocky Mountain Football League for many years and have covered the Utah Bears (formerly Cache Valley Bears) and Logan Stampede from their beginnings.  I have enjoyed my association with those teams and enjoyed photographing the games.  I am planning on covering a few more games this year as I have time in my schedule and as long as the games don’t overlap with tournaments that might pay me well for covering.  I have missed a few games already and missed being there.  The RMFL has some amazing athletes competing each week.  If you haven’t seen a game yet, take the time to see at least one game.

My future in shooting sports seems solid by default right now.  My weekends are filled with different tournaments and events.  Things are very different from the past in my work week and what takes priority.  I have learned that I must wear good shoes and invest in more sunscreen in the future.  Right now I am planning to cover several large RMSB tournaments and hope that all of this pays off in the end.  Things have started slow, but seem to be picking up and the future looks bright.  I just have to remember patience.
